Automatic transmission (AT)
History
The first patent for an automatic transmission was received by Asatur Sarafian from the USA in 1935. It was he who came up with the prototype of the modern automatic transmission, combining a torque converter with a planetary gearbox into a single mechanism. In 1904, the Sturtevant Brothers company released its model of an automatic transmission called the Sturtevant Automatic. However, the technology of that time was not as reliable as modern automatic transmissions, and they were not widely used.
