GLOSSARY
Opposed engine
An internal combustion engine in which the pistons are located on opposite sides of a central crankshaft. This design differs from traditional engines in which the pistons move up and down in a vertical cylinder. The configuration, especially in the case of four-cylinder boxer engines, provides excellent balance and low vibration. They are used in a variety of applications, including automobiles, motorcycles, aircraft, and heavy machinery.
