The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 50-55 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormally loud cranking sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that upon restarting the vehicle, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer the following morning. The dealer diagnosed that the crankshaft bearings had detached and damaged the engine. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer notified the manufacturer of the failure, but the manufacturer informed the dealer that the vehicle could not be covered because the vehicle was out of warranty.
