Description:
The 2014 Jeep Patriot includes an Active Head Restraint (AHR) that deploys during a rear end collision. On 5/22/2025 The driver’s side AHR deployed in my 2014 Jeep Patriot while the vehicle was moving at approximately 5 miles per hour in a parking lot, when there was no collision. The malfunction caused the AHR to move forward and hit the driver in the head (which did result in a headache and sore neck for the driver). The AHR on the front passenger’s side did not deploy, which indicates that this was a malfunction limited to the driver’s side AHR. I have been advised by my local Jeep dealership that this is not a ‘covered’ malfunction and will cost approximately $500 to replace the AHR, ‘assuming they can get the part in stock.’ I was further advised that the warranty for this part was extended, but if it didn’t malfunction within the covered period, then the owner is responsible for any later malfunction because it was ‘not a recall.’
