Driver and passenger traveling on [XXX] when white smoke came out of dash. Turned onto [XXX] and stopped. Driver and passenger exited truck and opened hood as smoke was becoming more visible and fire started from under dash. Passenger called 911while Driver used fire extinguisher and attempted unsuccessfully to put out flames as they kept restarting. As the flames increased they heard ‘popping and banging’ noised coming from the truck so they retreated to a safe distance and waited for the fire department.
