Description:
After filling the tank with fuel, I was immediately aware of a strong smell of gas. I am always extremely careful not to overfill causing any fuel to escape. The heavy smell/escape of fumes is such that the car simply canat be put in my garage. The risk of igniting and fire is a risk that is unacceptable. General Motors knows about this issue as they did notify me in 2017 that my car could have this condition and that if it did, they would fix it at no charge. I didnat have the issue at that time so didnat take the car in. So, now that I the problem, I have taken the car to Bradley Chevrolet in my town, Lake Havasu City, AZ and am told that in order to inspect the car for this issue, I will have to pay for 10 hours of labor ($2200) and only then will they see if they can find a new tank at another dealer. You see, GM no longer makes or has the tanks (according to their parts department). I have contacted their Customer Service Department and have a Case (#[XXX]). I am told that they will not participate going forward unless I spend the $2200 and then if they canat find a new tank, they will put the car back together and send me home with it! Itas my belief that since this is a documented safety defect resulting in an apparent fire hazard that they would/should take care of it.
