The contact owns a 2020 BMW X7. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine failed to turn over. The message ‘Starter Motor Overheating’ was displayed; however, there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the starter motor and battery were faulty and needed to be replaced. The contact was also advised that the coolant needed to be drained and refilled. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V576000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); as a possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.
