The contact owns a 2019 BMW X6. While the contact’s wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the parking brake independently engaged. The contact’s wife drove the vehicle to the shoulder of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that the parking brake malfunction warning light was illuminated. The contact’s wife attempted to release the parking brake several times; however, after several attempts, the parking brake was released. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with parking brake actuator assembly unit failure. The contact was informed that the parking brake actuator assembly unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed.
