ON [XXX] My 2022 Jeep Wrangler Hybrid was parked in my carport. Around [XXX] I started smelling something burning so got up to check the house and then went to the garage to check our cars. On checking the Jeep I noticed that the inside of the cabin was filling with smoke. I immediately called 911 and as I was on the phone with them the Jeep spontaneously burst into flames on the inside. The Fire department arrived shortly after. They began flooding the jeep with water and had to drag it out of our car port. Once they had it away from the house the continued to flush it with water and also placed a fire retardant blanket over the top of it to contain the fire. It continued to burn for several more hours until a tow truck arrived to take it to a yard. The fire truck had to follow the Tow as the car was still smoldering as they loaded it. According to the fire marshals’ initial assessment he believed the fire was started from the Jeeps Lithium Ion battery. * It is believed to be the Lithium Ion Battery. It has a recall and I had the recall scheduled for 1/9/2025 but it caught fire on [XXX]. The Jeep is with Progressive my insurance company and could possibly be inspected at request. * Luckily we caught it before it was fully engulfed. Jeep did emit noxious fumes while it was on fire and being put out. Our neighbor had to evacuate because of the fumes possibly entering her house. * It has been confirmed by Progressive and they have placed Jeep on notice. * It was inspected by the Ins Co.
