Description:
Turn signal switch actuator. When engaging in a right turn with the signal on, the turn signal switch will attempt to auto-reset into position where it will regularly engage the left-turn signal 3-blink indication for a lane change. The issue does not occur with every singly turn, but with enough regularity for it to be a very common occurrence on every drive the vehicle takes. On our most recent drive, of approximately 4 miles, the issue occurred 3 times, which was 75% of the right turns made on that trip. Brought the vehicle in for testing and fixes, and was given a loaner vehicle of the same model. Loaner vehicle shares the same exact problem when making right turns. This is a safety issue that should demand a recall, as it is an important safety system to alert other drivers on the road of your intentions. When finishing a right turn and the left signal engages on its own, it can trigger other people to believe you are making a new turn and may confuse them with your intentions on driving, or can occasionally trigger other people to think we are making a left turn when we are not intending to turn at all and they may pull out into the street, and there is no way to cancel the blinks as they are happening. Upon further research, this is a very widespread issue affecting potentially hundreds of thousands of people. When bringing it in for service, it’s frequently regarded as a ‘car quirk’ or a characteristic but that is unacceptable as this is a serious safety issue with the car as it is the only communicating factor you have with other drivers on the road.
