The contact stated that recently while driving 74 MPH on the highway, the vehicle lost motive power. The wrench light illuminated. The contact stated the vehicle was downshifting hard, with a clunking sound while driving 50 MPH. The vehicle was driven for 5 miles and then turned off. The contact then restarted the vehicle and drove to the residence. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with transmission failure, and metal shavings inside the oil pan. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
