Description:
I own two Graco Turn2Me convertible car seats that are installed rear facing. My seats are not in warranty with the manufacturer any more as they were purchased more than 1 year ago. My children are both under 35 pounds and within the height/weight range for rearfacing in this seat. When I was driving without the children in the car, I had to stop short and I heard a slapping sound. I realized it was one of the car seats hitting up against the back seat. When i checked the car seat after stopping, I saw that the seat was quite loose, moving more than 1 inch at base. It was moving several inches at base and when I turned the seat to the side, it tipped over significantly at the base. The second seat was also loose, but less so. Both seats were installed with the LATCH. Hoping to get a tighter install, I reinstalled both seats, following the manual, with the vehicle belt only. Five days after reinstalling both seats with the belt, I go to get a child into the seat and when I turn his seat toward the door, I notice it is very loose again, shifting at least 3 inches at the base. I began my research and have found others who have experienced this problem. I fear these seats have a major safety hazard when being used with both latch and belt in rear facing mode. They are loosening on their own, even after proper and tight install, over short periods of time. Perhaps the rotation feature is loosening click-tight feature that holds the latch/seatbelt. I do not feel these can be safely used, at least not rear facing.
