The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH and approaching a stopped traffic, the contact stated that the sun temporarily blinded his vision of the roadway. The contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond and crashed into a stopped motorcycle, causing the motorcycle and the motorcyclist to fall to the ground. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was designed with the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system, which failed to engage as designed. The motorcycle rider was able to escape the scene, while the contact’s vehicle continued to move forward and to drive over the rear end of the motorcycle. The motorcycle was damaged and could not be ridden. The motorcyclist sustained physical pain and received first aid from the ambulance; however, the motorcyclist declined medical assistance and was picked up by his girlfriend. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The air bags did not deploy. The check engine warning light illuminated after the crash. The contact stated that the front end and the undercarriage of the vehicle were damaged. The contact was able to drive the vehicle from the scene. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer’s Auto Body Shop, where an assessment of the vehicle damage was being performed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 4,700.
